I’m a Senior Lecturer in Russian and Co-Director of the St Andrews Centre for Exoplanet Science. I wanted to introduce  a multilingual science fiction project to help the Centre’s website better reflect the language diversity of its students and academics and I’m grateful to St Andrews Enterprise & Entrepreneurial Education - particularly Dr Shruti Narayanswamy - for their support. Exoplanet scientists at St Andrews are from all over the world and are inspired by science fiction from many different cultures. At the same time their research often inspires new science fiction, whether they write it themselves or in collaboration with creative writers. I also wanted undergraduates who are not doing modern language degrees to experience the creative energy that comes from translation, something I love doing myself alongside research and teaching.
